Parents Are the Strength
Meet the Meadowridge Parent Guild
In September, the Meadowridge Parent Guild held its Annual General Meeting, and the Executive members were decided upon for the next year; they join the thirteen Grade Representatives already in place. Every year, it seems, the Guild finds new ways to live up to their motto, "parents are the strength," and this group is no different.
We are very lucky to have such a dedicated group of parents, whose main focus is to find ways to connect our parent body with not only one another, but with the school community as a whole. They send out weekly communications for their grades, keep parents up-to-date on grade-level activities, and inform them of volunteer opportunities.
"We are very lucky to have such a dedicated group of parents, whose main focus is to find ways to connect our parent body with not only one another, but with the school community as a whole."
Their biggest impact, however, is nurturing the sense of community here at the school; they create opportunities for parents to engage with the school, at the school, and with each other in ways that Meadowridge staff could never do alone. It is this community feel that new families are drawn to, and one of the many reasons existing families stay.
"[The Parent Guild] creates opportunities for parents to engage with the school, at the school, and with each other in ways that Meadowridge staff could never do alone."
In only the first several weeks of the school year, the Guild has supported Spirit Day and PYP House Picnic day with lunch and treats, they made popcorn and cooked hotdogs for a Bring the Noise event in support of Meadowridge Athletics, organized a Diwali celebration, and they hosted the year's first Conversation Corner in the library – a monthly event where any parent is welcome to come and chat, perhaps practice English, but most certainly meet new friends. Further, each Grade Rep endeavors to organize a get-together for the Grade's parents sometime during the school year.
The Parent Guild Executives and Grade Reps organize these events, but the Guild is truly made up of all parents at Meadowridge, who are the ones out at the events, contributing, smiling, and having fun.
To learn when the next Guild-supported event is, keep your eyes on the eGryphon and your weekly Grade Rep emails. We hope you will find a way to become involved at the school, through the Guild, participating in events, or in another way you feel most passionate about.
