"Dear Meadowridge Alumni Association,
My name is Michael Abebe and I am a student at Meadowridge School. At the Graduation Ceremony a few weeks ago I was awarded the Meadowridge Alumni Association Scholarship for the 2010-2011 academic year. I am extrememly honoured to receive this very special award, and I am extrememly grateful for the ways the Alumni Association gives back to the students at Meadowridge.
This past school year I was President of the Senior School Student Council. We worked very hard to serve the students of Meadowridge. We organized Spirit Days which fostered school spirit, Cafe Nights which gave students the opportunity to performs in front of their peers; and an Autumn Harvest Dinner where we invited senior citizens from the Maple Ridge community into our school for a night of performances and dinner. In the upcoming year I will be attending the University of Waterloo, where I will be studying Bioinformatics in the Faculty of Mathematics.
Outside of school I am teaching and coaching swimming to young athletes aged seven to twelve years. I also played soccer with the Golden Ears United Soccer Club for several years, as well as having played soccer with the Meadowridge Sr. Boys Soccer Team, which won two GVISSA championships.
As a lifer at Meadowridge, I have spent my entire life at one school which will be a big change when I head off to university and venture into the world on my own. The skills that I have learned at Meadowridge such as respect, integrity, and diligence to name a few, are skills that I hope to continue to develop in the future. Meadowridge has provided me a solid foundation for my future, a foundation that I am extremely grateful for.
Once again, I would like to thank the Meadowridge Alumni Association for awarding me with this scholarship.
