Meadowridge Canadian Team Jump Rope Champs!

1/4/2010

On Saturday, January 2nd Meadowridge students participated in and won the Panasonic Canadian Team Jump Rope Championship in Burnaby!

The competition was sponsored by Panasonic to promote healthy activity for elementary aged students.

All three participating Canadian teams were each given 3 opportunities to score as many points as possible. The Vancouver Japanese Language School was 3rd with 104 points, Gladstone Japanese School was 2nd with 238 points and Meadowridge came out on top with 319 points. We had 19 members participating and changed our members each time with either 10 or 11 jumpers participating during each attempt. On our first attempt we scored 230 points, on our second we scored 99 points, and on our final attempt we made 29 jumps with 11 members for a final winning score of 319 points.

In addition to the Burnaby event, there are 7 other locations around the world that are participating, they are:

China (Shanghai) 7 teams

Vietnam (Hanoi)6 teams

India (Delhi) 8 teams

Czechoslovakia (Prague)8 teams

the United Kingdom (London) 3 or 4 teams

Germany (Berlin) - unknown number of teams

Brazil (Sao Paulo) 5 teams

The 4 countries with the highest scores have will be awarded with an all expenses paid trip to Japan to compete against the top team in Japan during the 3rd week of March. All students are also allowed to bring a parent or other chaperone, all expenses covered.

As Canadian Champions, the students will be featured on a popular national Japanese Television program, the equivalent of Canada AM or Good Morning America.

We will not know until February whether our score will hold up as one of the top four. Currently, we know that the Chinese team has beaten us, but we do not yet have the results from the other worldwide events.

Please congratulate our students for this remarkable achievement!
