Distinguished Alumni Awards
Meadowridge School alumni carry with them the knowledge and values shaped here.
All around the world, alumni go on to make meaningful contributions in their professional and personal lives and embody our school’s Mission, Vision, and Values. Established in 2023, the Distinguished Alumni Awards recognizes alumni and their successes and commitment to learning to live well, with others and for others, in a just community.
Criteria and Guidelines
Award Description
The Distinguished Alumni Award is the Meadowridge School Alumni Association’s most prestigious award. The Award honours graduates who have distinguished themselves in their professional and personal lives and who embody the Mission, Vision, and Values of Meadowridge School.
Three Distinguished Alumni Awards are awarded biennially.
Nomination Criteria
Nominations are solicited from the entire Meadowridge School community and from the greater community overall. Each nomination must include a completed nomination form with relevant professional and personal successes as well as descriptions of service, both with Meadowridge School and in the greater community overall, and embodiment of the IB Learner Profile.
Alumni may nominate themselves for the Award.
Selection Process
- All nominations will be considered, and nomination submissions will be authored and edited as necessary by Meadowridge School Alumni Relations.
- The Alumni Relations team will advance qualified Award nominees to the Meadowridge School Awards and Recognition Committee for selection.
- Of the nominees put forth by the Awards and Recognition Committee, the Head of School and Alumni Relations will select alumni who have made the greatest contributions and commitment to the Award standards.
The Alumni Relations team reserves the right to name individuals for this honour. In exceptional circumstances, awards may be issued posthumously.

James Antifaev ‘01
James Antifaev leads activities in new and emerging markets for Spaceflight, particularly focused on missions beyond LEO (MEO, GEO, and cislunar) as well as new applications of Spaceflight’s Sherpa Orbital Transfer Vehicle. Prior to Spaceflight, James held roles in product management at Loon, Alphabet’s stratospheric balloon venture, as well as product, business development, and engineering roles at Maxar, MDA, and the European Space Agency.
Jonathan Hsu ‘17
Jonny Hsu has diverse work experience in the fields of operations, venture capital, and consulting. Before joining Valance Lab, Jonny held the role of Director of Investments at Front Row Ventures and Venture Capital Analyst at Esplanade Ventures. Jonny also gained experience at ACE Consulting Group, where he served as both Director and Associate. Jonny has a Bachelor of Science degree in Science and Business with a specialization in Biochemistry from the University of Waterloo.
Mehar Kang ‘14
While at Meadowridge, Mehar served as President of the Senior Gryphon Council and was a member of various athletic teams. From 2014 to 2020, she was selected as one of 10 students in Canada for the prestigious Queen's University Accelerated Route to Medical School program. Dr. Kang now works as a Resident Physician and is completing specialty training in psychiatry.
