Week Without Walls Adventures

September’s WWOW Adventures
As part of Meadowridge’s Week Without Walls (WWOW) program, students across Grades 6 to 12 embarked on exciting outdoor adventures. These trips allow students to disconnect from technology, explore nature, and bond with their classmates. Read about Joella, Leila, and Emma’s memorable adventures.

Joella F. Grade 10
Duke of Edinburgh Silver Trip to Say Nuth Khaw Yum Provincial Park

1. Where did you go for your WWOW trip, and what activities did you participate in?
We paddled up the Indian Arm and camped at Berg’s Landing in Say Nuth Khaw Yum Provincial Park. We paddled for up to six hours each day, cooked our planned meals, and visited waterfalls. I enjoyed time away from technology, playing volleyball, skipping rocks, and getting to know new people in my year.

2. What was your group’s favourite activity, and why?
We enjoyed exploring the campsite and photographing the beautiful surroundings. Our team’s goal for the Duke of Edinburgh Award focused on bonding, which helped us grow closer.

3. Can you share the most memorable story or moment from the trip?
The most memorable moment was having a guide teach us about the original settlers and their culture. He shared songs and stories about his ancestors, and we paddled further up the river than ever before into their sacred ground—truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

4. What was one thing that surprised students during the trip?
We were surprised by how much technique paddling required, but it became easier once we got the hang of it. Another surprise was how wet we got—though, in hindsight, it was expected since we were surrounded by water!

Leila N. Grade 9
Alouette Lake

1. Where did you go for your WWOW trip, and what activities did you participate in?
We went to Alouette Lake, where we canoed, created skits, cooked meals, and had a canoe relay race.

2. What was your group’s favourite activity, and why?
Our group enjoyed the canoe relay race because our advisory class was competitive. We paddled as fast as possible in the last stretch to beat the other teams.

3. Can you share the most memorable story or moment from the trip?
The first night was memorable because many of us couldn’t sleep, but we made it fun!

4. What was one thing that surprised students during the trip?
We were surprised by the number of caterpillars surrounding the campsite—furry, orange caterpillars were everywhere, crawling on us and the ground!

Emma Z. Grade 6
Camp Squeah

1. Where did you go for your WWOW trip, and what activities did you participate in?
We went to Camp Squeah, where we did drama workshops, rock climbing, hiking, and enjoyed campfire evenings. We also worked on arts and crafts and carving projects and played camp-wide team-building games.

2. What was your group’s favourite activity, and why?
We loved the camp-wide games because we got to work as a team, meet new people, and run around. The food was also amazing—especially the tomato soup!

3. Can you share the most memorable story or moment from the trip?
The most memorable moment was when we played 9-square and found a little fuzzy caterpillar that we held.

4. What was one thing that surprised students during the trip?
During the campfires, we were surprised by how many songs we knew from previous camps. We also learned new games on the low ropes course, which was fun!

Each WWOW trip allowed Meadowridge students to connect with nature, their peers, and their sense of adventure. Whether paddling through sacred waters, racing canoes, or enjoying campfire songs, the memories of this year’s WWOW adventures will last a lifetime!
