Grade 9 and 10 Duke of Ed Practice Journey

On Friday, April 28 and Tuesday, May 9, the Grade 9 and 10 students completed their Practice Journey by planning a trip from Rocky Point Park in Port Moody to Barnet Marine Park in Burnaby. Students were asked to prepare their meals for the day and their route of travel. They collaborated in teams and travelled in voyageur canoes to their destination and back.

The students who are pursuing their Awards are to meet the 13 Requirements of the Adventurous Journey, which can be found in the Adventurous Journey Guide. The Practice Journey is an important stage in the process, for it allows the students to apply their training and learn valuable lessons for their Qualifying Trip.

The Grade 10 students are looking forward to the trip during WWOW to Say Nuth Khaw Yum Provincial Park, which will count as the Qualifying Journey for the students working towards their Duke of Edinburgh Awards. The students are responsible for navigating the canoes to their marine camping destination and demonstrating their camp craft skills. The current Grade 9 students will complete their Qualifying Journey during the Fall WWOW to the same park.
