What brought your family to Meadowridge?
We wanted a progressive IB education for our son. We value IB’s approach and its encouragement of critical thinking as well as its process-based teaching. Of course, Meadowridge has spectacular grounds and we liked that its program includes outdoor time. My husband hasn’t always worked in Canada, so we wanted to find a school with an international curriculum. It’s really a composite of all these things that attracted us to Meadowridge.
Favourite Meadowridge tradition.
I really like the Christmas Assembly. I think the main reason is that it is super interactive for the children, and it helps them to see that they’re a part of something bigger. It creates a sense of occasion and community.
What types of activities or initiatives does the Sunshine Rep take on?
I work as the liaison between the Guild and the rest of the parent community. When something impactful happens in someone’s life - good or bad - we reach out with a card, an email, a phone call… anything that expresses support or congratulations. In times of hardship, it lets parents know we are here and it builds connection.
What inspired you to become the Sunshine Rep?
I’ve been doing it for a quite a while, since my son was in Junior Kindergarten. I slid into it, really. I like people and I’m good at building relationships and using words. It’s much harder to write something down than it is to say it so it helps that I can express myself well on paper.
Something you’d be surprised to know about me.
My hair is actually almost completely gray. I have yet to get to the stage of comfort where I can give up the dye. I’ll be comfortable enough one day - but today is not that day!
