Connie Chow Recipient of BC Fencing Association President’s Award

Ms. Connie Chow has been selected as the 2022/23 recipient of BC Fencing Association’s Presidents’ Award, the highest sport volunteer recognition award in the province. Ms. Chow has shown outstanding dedication and commitment to the sport and has led our students to major accomplishments in fencing.

Ms. Chow was one of two key people that started the Meadowridge Fencing Club fifteen years ago (thank you to our other founding member, Gareth Mason). She has remained a passionate volunteer since the beginning and is the primary driving force behind it now. Over 350 students have gone through the Meadowridge Fencing Club which is a member of the BC Fencing Association.

Ms. Chow has ensured all three weapons (saber, epee, and foil) have been taught by highly skilled coaches. We have always had a couple of fencing coaches available and have been fortunate to have some for many years.

Ms. Chow has added to fencing in the lower mainland and BC, not just at the grassroots level but by introducing some elite-level athletes. We have had a number of Meadowridge students go through and move on to national and international level competitions, as well as at the university level. Some names that are known in the fencing community began at Meadowridge as youth and have gone on to fence internationally. Currently, we have several younger fencers that are up and coming on the local tournament circuit. This is directly attributed to the time and energy that Connie has put into the program.

Congratulations, Ms. Chow!
