Our Grade 6 students are wrapping up their unit, ‘Let’s Make a Deal’. Their inquiry focused on how ‘individuals and communities connect through global interactions, through balanced trade with the protection of human rights and the sustainability of natural resources poses a significant challenge.’
To end the unit, students created board games where they were challenged to construct an engaging and entertaining board game based on global trade. They worked as individuals or small groups and effectively collaborated to be successful, using feedback from their peers to inform their self-reflection at the end of the activity. They needed to use creative thinking skills, and the game needed to:
- Include a range of vocabulary from the unit,
- Demonstrate an understanding of the key concept: Global Interactions and the impacts of global trade on people (communities) and resources (sustainability),
- Reflect both the benefits (positive aspects) and challenges (negative aspects) of global trade,
- Reflect the values held and ethical judgments they’ve made regarding to global trade,
- Include a game board and game pieces,
- Clear instructions (one-page maximum) that explain the game,
- Be fun to play and demonstrate creativity.
Congratulations Grade 6 students for your outstanding work.
