Meadowridge Track & Field and Badminton Success

BGryphon Track & Field is well underway and Grade 4 to 12 students are in their fifth week of practice. Last Thursday, Students in Grades 8 to 12 attended their first meet, the Coquitlam Classic. Despite the cold and wet weather, we had outstanding results in a variety of events. Josh O. (Grade 8) took home 1st in both discus and shot put, Hailey L. (Grade 9) captured 2nd in the javelin, and Kevin M. (Grade 9) won the long jump in a single attempt. Students participated in sprints, hurdles, high jump, and mid-distance events on the track. One great part about track & field, besides competing against others, is you are competing against yourself. It is wonderful to hear someone say, ‘I got a new personal best!’

Today, our Grade 8 to 12 students are competing in a local track & field meet at the 21st Annual Nick Wilkes Meet. It is a popular large annual event with over 570 athletes attending. We are excited to have 16 athletes registered for it. Tomorrow, Grade 3 to 7 students are off to Abbotsford for the annual Meadowridge Track & Field meet at Rotary Stadium. Sending best wishes to all our athletes competing.

Congratulations to our Junior and Senior Badminton Teams for a strong start to their season. Our junior team has put on a dominant performance winning the last four games and are currently undefeated in their zone with an undefeated record as they get closer to the JR GVISAA Playoffs/Championships. Our senior team, although early in their season, has been putting in hard work and consistency in balancing practices, games, and their workload in the DP.

Thank you to all players, Meadowridge coaches, Shuttlesport coaches, drivers, and parents for their support and efforts in the program. We wish all our athletes luck as GVISAA Playoffs and Championships approach. Go Gryphons Go!
