Meadowridge School hosted the FIRST LEGO League BC/Yukon Territory Championship and Festival on Sunday, March 8, welcoming over 400 participants, families, and volunteers for a day of innovation and teamwork.

This year’s theme, “UNEARTHED,” challenged students to explore how engineering and technology can help uncover the past and shape the future.

A total of 32 teams from across British Columbia and the Yukon participated in the robotics tournament. Meadowridge had four teams competing: Meadowridge Circuit Breakers, Meadowridge Tech-o Terrors, The Meadowridge Royal NPC, and Meadowridge Mission Jellycat.

Among them, our Grade 8 team, Royal NPC, delivered an outstanding performance, earning second place overall. The team—Adi B., Brayden H., Lawrence X., Zayaan L., Aryamaan B., Surya S., Wes M., and Ben A.—secured second place out of 95 teams across British Columbia and the Yukon, achieving the highest placement ever attained by a Meadowridge team.

This achievement qualifies Royal NPC to attend an upcoming international FIRST LEGO League event.

Their success reflects months of dedication and teamwork. The students have been practicing every school day after school for two full terms, refining their robot design, programming, and collaborative strategies.

Robotics continues to be a significant part of the Meadowridge experience, offering students opportunities to build technical skills while forming lasting friendships and memories. The program would not be possible without the leadership of Ms. Carrie Mohoruk, founder and leader of the largest school-based FIRST Robotics program in British Columbia.

Congratulations to Royal NPC and all Meadowridge teams who participated in this year’s competition for making it a meaningful and historic event for the school community.
