Journey Through Term 1: Exploring Fine Arts

Across the continuum, students have been exploring fine arts in all sorts of ways, letting their creativity run wild, finding inspiration in all things, and putting in the work to make this term a masterpiece.

In Elementary School Visual Arts, Grade 4 students went into the North Forest to collect some leaves to then examine down to the smallest detail. Students were then tasked with drawing their leaves which will now be combined into a larger art piece that they will be working on over the next few classes.

In Music 9 and Contemporary Music 10, students are taking on the challenge of doing what a singer-songwriter does – write, record, and perform their own song. In this complex unit, students are using their individual prior knowledge, taste in music, skill and perspective to combine lyrics, chord progressions, rhythm and melody into their own song in the singer-songwriter tradition. Their song performance and recording will be a conglomeration of their musical knowledge, skill, creativity and ability to self-critique in a three-minute song. The four criteria for the Arts are being evaluated in this unit. The songs will be on display later in the year at “Unplugged”, (annual singer/songwriter concert,) and also on Kaleidoscope 2024 which will be released to our community in June.
