Our Accreditations, Authorizations, & Memberships

Meadowridge holds accreditations and authorizations from a number of organizations, including the International Baccalaureate, the Canadian Accredited Independent Schools, and the Ministry of Independent Schools. These accreditations are distinct, and serve different purposes.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is actually three authorizations, one for each level of the IB. For each, a team from the IBO visits our school, after we have thoroughly described our Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP). They speak to students, parents, teachers, and administrators. They also examine our self-report, check our results, and visit all classrooms.

The visits are designed to provide a full picture of the teaching and learning in the school, and to make sure that we hold to the highest international standards. If they are satisfied, they authorize us to continue to offer the program. Each program has an authorization visit every five years. This ensures that the quality of teaching and learning in the school remains at a world level of excellence.

The Ministry Of Education Inspection, involves three or four people visiting our school for several days to make sure that our school complies with all school law in the Province, and that our school does an acceptable job of teaching and learning. Although thorough, it is largely regional, and based upon minimal acceptable standards; it is, however, much more thorough than what public schools face, since they have no inspection at all.

Except for the Ministry Accreditation these visits are completely voluntary. So why do we do it?

Many schools make statements about what they do and what they accomplish. We believe that the single best way for parents to be assured of the quality of a school is to look at the number and quality of their accrediting agencies. These are objective reports by large teams of experts, based on complex data and substantial school visits. Your school’s accreditations are very strong reports which look at the school in detail.

These accreditations provide a scorecard on the quality of our school, promote reflection on how we might improve, and provide assurance to our families and Board that we are meeting and exceeding the highest standards in the world. Our children deserve no less.
