Tell us about your time at Meadowridge.

I joined in Grade 8 right before the pandemic—I didn’t get to finish my first year on campus! But I remember being impressed with how quickly the school responded and moved things online. My family had been after a quality education when they joined the school. That’s what we found here. Meadowridge is a supportive and encouraging community with lovely teachers, classmates, and peers. When I joined, everyone was welcoming and helpful.

What’s it like being a student at Meadowridge?

It’s a fulfilling but also challenging experience. The IB curriculum and workload teach you the skills you need to succeed. But you’re not alone. You’re with many people—teachers, classmates, staff—who are in it with you and are here to help. This makes it easier and more encouraging. It teaches you critical thinking and communication especially. Another unique thing about being a student at Meadowridge is the House System. I enjoyed being on Whonnock as it brought a sense of unity.

What will you always remember from your time here?

Our Week Without Walls (WWOW) trip to Indian Arm. We had to canoe for hours in the pouring rain. On the way back, we had to pack up our things and our canoe, so we were already soaking wet before even getting in the canoe. We all got on the bus with our clothes dripping wet. This is something memorable. From WWOW trips, I earned my Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Silver Awards, and I am working towards my Gold Award, which will stick with me, too.

Tell us about an experience that shaped you.

Coaching badminton changed me and made me more extroverted. Before, I was a follower and a listener, and now I feel more comfortable taking on leadership roles. It’s been helpful for me. Because I’m pursuing business, leadership is important. My teachers encouraged me to try coaching, and the transition was hard at first, but I’m so grateful for the opportunity. As time goes by, you get used to things and get better, and your skills develop naturally.

Choosing a school and program is quite the journey—tell us yours.

My family business, and my parents especially, inspired me to pursue business. Choosing a school was difficult for me. I considered one on the East Coast and one on the West Coast. Ultimately, I love nature and the sun, so I decided on The University of California, Irvine. That way, no matter how stressful my classes are, I can always be outside and have a good mindset.

What are you most looking forward to in the year ahead? In the future?

I’m excited to pursue my studies, especially management, administration, and marketing. I’m also excited to explore the school and the nearby cities. I’ve been searching for good beaches and restaurants already—it will be a unique experience! In the future, I want to pursue an MBA.

What words of wisdom would you pass on to Meadowridge students?

Our school’s mission inspires me. Learning to live well with others and for others… our mission tells us we are all learners and mentors. We shouldn’t limit ourselves. We don’t just learn from our teachers; we should take an active part in our learning, too. Knowledge isn’t fixed—you can receive new information and contribute to the conversation, which might lead to new knowledge. At Meadowridge, you learn from friends who come from diverse backgrounds and have different interests.

Congratulations to our 2024 Graduates
