Travel Tips from our Alumni Living Abroad: 5 Things You Have to Try in Berlin

’08 Alumni and Berlin resident, Christopher Danforth has a few travel tips for those who have plans to travel to his vibrant city. Here’s a list of the top 5 things you have to try while visiting Berlin, according to Chris.

  1. There is a huge Turkish community in Berlin, specifically in Kreuzberg. You must try Turkish kofte (meatballs) and lahmacun (a kind of flatbread).

  2. Explore abandoned buildings in Berlin that were left after the fall of the Berlin wall in 1990.

  3. Visit the many lakes surrounding the city, which are a great refuge on hot summer days.

  4. Check out Berlin's galleries and museums. One of Chris’ favourite galleries is Sammlung Boros - located inside a former civilian air raid bunker from World War II.

  5. Lastly, a cold beer by the canal, Chris says is a must.

Chris moved to Berlin in 2014 when he accepted a role as an Editor at a lifestyle magazine called Highsnobiety. Currently, he works as a freelance consultant and his writing career has taken him all over the world, including Milan, Paris, Tokyo, Moscow, and the list goes on!
