“Meadowridge was important to me because it was a safe space. It was a place that encouraged me, protected me, and allowed me to be myself. The School offers so much outside of just quality education. It’s really a community.”
One of Chris’ Meadowridge classmates always joked that Chris would become the editor of a newspaper one day.
Throughout his educational journey at Meadowridge, Chris was an exceptional writer and history buff. Naturally, after graduating from the School in 2008, he began studying history at Carleton University. During his time at Carleton, he became fascinated by sneaker culture and streetwear. He started writing for international magazines and in 2014 accepted a position as an Editor for the lifestyle magazine Highsnobiety in Berlin – his classmate was right all along!
After a successful run writing for magazines and fashion brands, Chris now works as a freelance consultant writing for the likes of renowned brands like Adidas, PUMA, Birkenstock, and Gucci! He says he loves seeing the final result of all his planning and work.
“It’s a lot of fun to go through all the preparatory stages like researching a topic, writing interview questions, conducting an interview, and writing the article. But it’s a great feeling to see your work published, and to know people are reading it and engaging with it,” says Chris.
And the best work perks? Chris’ career has taken him to Moscow, Tokyo, Istanbul, and Marrakech. He’s met basketball hall-of-famer, Michael Jordan in Paris and soccer superstar, Ronaldinho Gaúcho in Milan. Chris also gets the latest trendy sneakers for free on a weekly basis.
Although Chris lives abroad, thousands of kilometers away, Chris says Meadowridge holds a special place in his life. “Meadowridge was important to me because it was a safe space. It was a place that encouraged me, protected me, and allowed me to be myself. The School offers so much outside of just quality education. It’s really a community.”
