Exploring the Body Systems: Grade 5 Mini-Exhibition

Grade 5 students recently engaged in an exciting mini-exhibition focusing on the human body as part of their Who We Are Unit of Inquiry. Students explored one of the body’s major systems, respiratory, circulatory, muscular, skeletal, or digestive and became experts, sharing their findings with peers and teachers.

Individual Research, Discovery, and Creativity:

Students began their journey by diving into their assigned system. Using a mix of library resources, online materials, and hands-on curiosity, they explored how their system works and why it’s vital to the body. They organized their learning using the following:

  • Online Templates: To capture key facts and details.
  • Handwritten Research Packages: Reinforcing understanding through manual notetaking.
  • Visual Notes: Drawing diagrams and symbols to simplify complex information.

Students created infographics on Canva to synthesize their research, summarizing their body system’s functions visually and engagingly.

Collaborative Visuals and Models:

Once the individual research was complete, students worked in teams to bring their findings to life through creative group projects:
Posters: Combining their research and infographics to create educational and visually compelling posters.
• 3D Models: Crafting detailed models from clay, recycled items, and paper to showcase the structure and function of their systems.

Learning Through Presentation:

The culmination of their work was the mini-exhibition. Students presented their findings to their classmates, teachers, and even Grade 12 students. They shared fun facts like how many litres of blood the heart pumps each day and the importance of calcium for strong bones. Fielding questions from peers further strengthened their communication and critical thinking skills.

This exhibition allowed students to explore the human body and prepare for their PYP Exhibition in the Spring. Through research, collaboration, and presentation, students gained valuable skills to serve them in future learning. We couldn’t be prouder of their creativity and enthusiasm.
