February is Black History Month

This month, our high school students are learning about and honouring the diverse history of Black Canadians as we recognize Canada’s Black History Month. This year’s theme is “Ours to Tell” which represents a commitment to learning more about the stories Black Canadians share about their successes and sacrifices.
Members of the Senior Gryphon Council have displayed posters around the school sharing the stories of notable Canadians like Violet King, the first black woman to become a lawyer in Canada and Lincoln Alexander, the first black MP.  Later this month, our Grade 9’s will explore current role models in fields ranging from mathematics to music, activists and artists.

These explorations continue our commitment to celebrating the diversity of Canada while acknowledging ways we can still learn and grow.

Everyone is welcome to come and see our growing display in the High School lounge; if you have any stories of your own you would like to contribute, please contact Ms. Jennifer Higginson at jennifer.higginson@meadowridge.bc.ca
