As part of their Societies & Literature learnings, Grade 6 students drew on their understandings of government systems, power, and conflict to design and build their own imagined societies.

Students explored how decisions are made, who holds power, how resources are shared, and how conflicts can arise and be resolved. Using this knowledge, they thoughtfully shaped their society’s rules, structures, and values, while also incorporating the First Person Principles of Learning and considering fairness, leadership, and citizens' needs.
Throughout the process, students applied creativity to develop unique cultures, geographies, and systems, and critical thinking to justify their choices. They communicated their ideas through models, maps, and written or oral explanations, clearly showing how their society functions. This task encouraged them to connect real-world concepts to their own designs, helping them see how governance and power influence daily life.
By combining knowledge, creativity, and communication, students demonstrate a deep, personal understanding of how societies work and how thoughtful decisions can foster more balanced communities.
