Grade 8: Squamish and Whistler, Interview with Ms. Hsu
Where did you go and what did you do?
We went to Squamish and Whistler. We took the Sea to Sky gondola, had an outdoor adventure on the panorama trail walk to learn about different landscapes, and hiked to Shannon Falls. We visited the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre, had a tour around the c centre and participated in a dream catcher workshop. Students were divided into groups and joined a three-hour Whistler Amazing Race.
What was the group's favourite activity?
The Amazing Race, Sea to Sky gondola and hiking were some of the most popular activities.
What were students surprised to learn?
Making a dream catcher; it was harder than most of them expected.
Favourite story from the trip?
Spending time with friends around Whistler village.
Grade 10: Tofino, Interview with Mr. Schofield
Where did you go and what did you do?
Tofino. We camped, had two surfing lessons, had an interpretive walk at Wick beach with a Parks Canada Guide, explored the history and culture of Tofino town and went out for dinner at the original Tacofino food truck.
What was the group's favourite activity?
They liked surfing and hanging out with their friends at the campsite and at the beach in the evenings.
What were students surprised to learn?
I think a lot of them were surprised at how hard surfing is but they tried their best and did not give up. Maybe some were surprised at how different Tofino's climate is and how it was several degrees colder there than elsewhere.
Favourite story from the trip?
Seeing a large group of the class playing together - games of Mafia at camp and volleyball and soccer on the beach.
Grade 6: Victoria, Interview with Ms. Villadiego
Where did you go and what did you do?
Grade 6 students went to Victoria and practiced self-management skills to show their independence.
What was the group's favourite activity?
They had high-flying fun in Wildplay, went Cosmic bowling, walked up to the scenic Malahat Skywalk and screamed sliding down, ate delicious food like authentic Mexican esquite and ice cream on the sunny docks of Fisherman's Wharf, paddled in time in dragon boats, devoured yummy pastas in Old Spaghetti Factory, watched Karate Kid in comfy recliners, spent time with friends in hotel rooms, enjoying the gift shop and time with friends on the ferry, and sang songs to serenade Mr. Noble and Mr. Rinn on the bus on the way home.
Favourite story from the trip?
Some of our most memorable moments were when we saw an eagle flying side by side a hawk at the Malahat skywalk and caught a glimpse of Jason Priestly filming Private Eyes in downtown Victoria! Our trip was packed with energy, smiles, delicious food, great company, and great memories.
