Last Friday, our community came together to celebrate Diwali, the festival of light, unity, and joy. Organized by the Parent Diwali Group, the day was filled with vibrant performances, delicious food, and hands-on activities for students and families alike. More than 40 parent volunteers, over 50 performers, and upwards of 850 community members joined in to mark the occasion.
The morning began with a heartwarming assembly where members of the school’s Leadership Team and Elementary students lit diyas (oil lamps), symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness. What followed was a lively showcase of performances: a joyful dance by Junior Kindergarten to Grade 2 students, a spirited Bollywood group performance led by Maya S. (Grade 8), an elegant Gujarati-style solo by Anusha B. (Grade 10), and an energetic Grade 5 group performance that had the audience cheering along.

A touching highlight of the morning was the longstanding tradition of a mother-daughter performance, featuring Grade 12 student Naysa C. in her final appearance on the Diwali stage before graduation. The celebration continued with a traditional Garba dance by parent volunteers and concluded with an energetic and colourful Bhangra performance by the Let’s Do Bhangra group, featuring new student Anahat D. (Grade 10). The group closed the assembly by inviting everyone to join in a short Bhangra lesson, filling the gymnasium with rhythm, laughter, and energy.

Following the assembly, festivities continued in the Cafeteria and Elementary corridor, where the community enjoyed traditional Indian snacks, mehndi (henna) art, sari-draping tutorials, and plenty of opportunities to dance and celebrate together.
Elementary students also joined in the fun with creative, hands-on activities led by parent volunteers, including diya lamp collages, decorated wooden lanterns, rangoli designs, and clay diyas.

A heartfelt thank you to all the parents, volunteers, and performers who helped bring this celebration to life. Your energy and enthusiasm made this year’s Diwali one to remember.
