From April 22 to 25, Meadowridge celebrated Earth Week with three action-packed days of student- and staff-led initiatives. These encouraged our community to reflect on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) and take meaningful steps toward a more sustainable future.
“We celebrate Earth Week to remind ourselves why protecting our planet matters. We're not just raising awareness, we're creating change. This week is a chance to show that small actions can make a big difference. It's important to remember that the work doesn't just stop after Earth Week. This week is a starting point for habits we can carry all year to make sustainable choices.” Priscilla H. (Grade 10)
Led by M-ECO and Food4Thought, Earth Week kicked off on Tuesday, April 22 (Earth Day) with a House Food Waste Competition, using data from the school-wide Food Waste Challenge to promote SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. Students and staff also embraced Thrifty Tuesday, arriving in borrowed, thrifted, or secondhand outfits to raise awareness about sustainable fashion and reduce clothing waste.
On Wednesday, high school students gathered for a Water Sanitation Activity during lunch, diving into the realities of global water access and learning how our community contributes to SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation.
The week wrapped up on Thursday with a fun twist—The Great Gulp & Anything But a Water Bottle Day. Students swapped single-use bottles for teapots, mugs, jars, and other creative drinking containers. Crumbl gift cards added extra motivation, and participation didn’t disappoint!
Thank you to everyone who took part and showed their commitment to sustainability. Reflections and results from the week will be shared at the upcoming middle and high school assemblies in May.
Together, our small actions made a big impact.
