Grade 4 and 5 Students explore the Museum of Anthropology… online!

Over the course of last week, our Grade 4 and 5 classes took part in a virtual field trip to the Museum of Anthropology. What was even more special about this experience is that they were the first students in BC to take the Archaeology of the Lower Fraser River program in a virtual environment. As part of this pilot experience, students and teachers were asked for honest feedback for the Laboratory of Archeology volunteers and their suggestions were insightful and will help future participants. Spearheaded by Mr. Diniz, our Indigenous Education Committee leader, our Grade 4 and 5 teachers welcomed this learning about woodworking, home life, hunting and fishing. Students in Grade 4 learned about halfting, adze blades and ancient cherries, while those in Grade 5 learned about halfting, projectile points and atalts. Overwhelmingly, all students wished they could have visited the museum in person. Perhaps, next year.
