Gryphon Athletics Back in Action!

After a year-and-a-half-long absence from competitive sport, our Gryphons got off to a solid start this past week. Catch up with our Volleyball and Soccer teams "

On Monday, our Junior (Grade 9 and 10) Girls Volleyball team hosted White Rock Christian Warriors and École des Pionniers and went split 1-1 with a win and a loss. Rachel S. punctuated the opening of the Athletic season with an ‘ace’ serve – awesome! On Tuesday, the Junior (Grade 8 to 10) Boys soccer team opened their season on our beautiful backfield versus École Jules Verne. We fell on the wrong side of a 2-0 score but with great fan support including parents, students, and staff.  Be sure to come up for a match on a nice fall day; the field looks amazing as the trees around it begin to change colours. Also, on Tuesday the Bantam (Grade 8) Girls Volleyball team travelled to Regent Christian Academy and split with a win over host Regent, but a loss to White Rock Christian.

This week, our Grade 5 Boys Soccer team had several wins over Southpointe Academy Titans with several mini games (7v7) on our backfield. Special thanks to student referees Aqeel K. and Manny B. for stepping up and giving back with their soccer knowledge to help our youngest Gryphon ‘lads’ on the pitch and the Athletic Department. The Senior Gryphon Girls Volleyball team opened the season on the road at Fraser Valley Adventist and had solid wins over host FVAA Royals and BC Christian Panthers.

A big shoutout to Nancy Z. for kicking off the second match with nine consecutive serves – a great way to start any game.

Today and tomorrow, we have our Junior and Bantam Girls Volleyball team in tournaments at Lion’s Gate Academy and also today our Senior (Grade 11 and 12) Boys Soccer open their season with a home game at 5:00pm versus Fraser Valley Adventist Panthers visiting us.
