High School Students Succeed at Mathematics Competitions

Meadowridge High School students competed in various Mathematics competitions throughout the school year, challenging their knowledge and problem-solving against students across Canada.

American Mathematics Competitions
The American Mathematics Competitions are a series of examinations and curriculum materials that build problem-solving skills and mathematical knowledge in middle and high school students.

First Place – Johnson Y.

*Joshua has earned a qualification certification for the American Invitational Competition.

CEMC Mathletics Contests
Canadian Intermediate and Canadian Senior Math Contests.
The Canadian Senior and Intermediate Mathematics Contests (CSMC and CIMC) are two contests designed to give students the opportunity to have fun and develop their mathematical problem-solving ability.

11 Meadowridge students participated this year and a total of five received marks which put them in the top 25% of all participants:

Pascal, Cayley, and Fermat Mathematics Contest
The Pascal, Cayley, and Fermat (PCF) Contests are a fun opportunity for participants to explore the potential of mathematics and their role in it. Sixteen students in Grades 9, 10 and 11 participated this year.

In Grade 9, three students receive certificates of Distinction for placing in the top 25% of all participants:

In Grade 11, Joshua L. receives a Certificate of Distinction and a school championship medal.

Fryer, Galois, and Hypatia Mathematics Contests
The Fryer, Galois, and Hypatia (FGH) Contest is a unique opportunity for participants to write a full-solution contest, a format that can help learners develop problem-solving and communication skills.

Nine students participated:
In Grade 9, Daniel L. and George Z. received a Certificate of Distinction, and George received a school championship medal.
In Grade 11, Joshua L. received a certificate of Distinction and a School Championship medal.

Canadian Computing Contest
The Canadian Computing Competition (CCC) is a fun challenge for participants interested in programming.
Students may write at the Junior or Senior level of the competition.

At the Junior Level, Certificates of Distinction are awarded to:

Evan L.

At the Senior Level, Joshua L. receives a certificate of Distinction.

Euclid Mathematics Contest
Written by over 20,000 participants worldwide every year, the Euclid contest allows senior-level secondary school students to tackle novel problems with creativity and all the knowledge they’ve gained in secondary school mathematics.

Joshua L. and Lucas P. receive Certificates of Distinction for scoring in the top 25% worldwide, and Joshua L. receives the School Championship medal.
Joshua L. receives a Certificate for Outstanding Achievement in the Canadian Open Math Contest.
