As part of Junior Kindergarten’s ‘Sharing the Planet’ Unit of Inquiry, students were asked to make pictures of forests… without markers! This unique activity drew upon students’ imaginations as they explored how to make their pictures without drawing. “We wanted students to show their knowledge, creativity, and open-mindedness,” explains the Junior Kindergarten team. Students used things from all around their homes and yards and toy chests to create their masterpieces. “The kids can think for themselves,” the teachers share of their unique inquiries and choices, “and learning isn’t always through ‘academics’ – play is important and doesn’t need to come from a book!” How do you create a picture without drawing?
