M-ECO Club’s Bird Scavenger Hunt: Fostering Environmental Stewardship

Towards the end of Term 1, the M-ECO Club at Meadowridge School focused on raising environmental awareness, with a special emphasis on birds found in our North Forest. One of the club's key initiatives was the Bird Scavenger Hunt, designed for middle school students, held in the first week of December.

The hunt featured two difficulty levels—easy and hard—where students answered multiple-choice questions about local birds. Posters with anagrams and questions were displayed around the middle school, encouraging students to explore and learn. The first three students to correctly unscramble the answers won plush bird toys of hummingbirds and chickadees, two birds that live in our North Forest!

The event was a fun challenge and an opportunity for students to connect with nature and expand their knowledge about the diverse bird species that inhabit the North Forest. Combining learning with interactive activities, the M-ECO Club aimed to inspire curiosity and foster a greater sense of environmental stewardship among middle school students.
