To build a stronger sense of community and an understanding of service as action, students in Middle School Explorations will volunteer at the Friends In Need Food Bank throughout the year
A small group of Grade 8 students were the first to volunteer, learning first about the organization and their operations and then preparing the hampers to hand out later on. Students learned that 120 families come every day, with over 1,000 families supported each week. Students were particularly impacted when a fellow volunteer shared how their support would help: “You all have made my day so much easier by filling these bags for me, it will allow me to focus on other areas that I don’t normally have time for”.
