Hello Middle School Parents,
I hope that you all are doing well. I wanted to share with you something that has recently come to my attention. Some of you may know that there is a new and very popular television show on Netflix called Squid Game, and apparently it has become especially popular with many of our middle school students. The show is rated TV-MA and is not intended for children under the age of 16. It contains extreme violence, sex, nudity and other mature themes. I watched the first episode over the weekend and as a parent myself, I felt compelled to share this information with you.
Recently I heard a grade 6 student shout as he left for recess ‘I’m going to play Squid Game, who’s coming with me’. Later in the day a grade 8 student commented that he had already bought a Squid Game costume for Halloween. As parents, I feel like it would be worthwhile to have a conversation with your kids about the show and determine if you are comfortable with your child watching the show. I would suggest that you preview the show or watch an episode before having the conversation.
