This term marked the exciting launch of the first-ever Middle and High School Outdoor Skills Club at Meadowridge School—a new CAS initiative designed to get students outside, learning, and adventuring together. Created and led by Mme. Gish, inspired by Mr. James Willms, and supported by Mr. Schofield, the club welcomed students in Grades 6 through 9 to learn essential outdoor survival skills through weekly hands-on sessions.
Throughout the term, students participated in activities such as shelter building, nature journaling, knot tying, and fire starting. The club focused not only on practical outdoor techniques but also on developing confidence, communication, and teamwork in a natural setting. Each week brought a new challenge and opportunity to connect with the environment—and with one another.
The final day of the club was marked by a certificate ceremony celebrating the growth and achievements of each of the 15 participants. From their first knots to their final fires, students embraced the elements and learned to thrive in the outdoors.
Congratulations to all our Outdoor Skills Squad members on a successful inaugural season. We can’t wait to see how this new tradition grows in the years to come!
