From a summer scholarship search to becoming Meadowridge’s first-ever recipient of the Schulich Leader Scholarship.
Congratulations to Drake Wiggins-Martignago ’26 on receiving the Schulich Leader Scholarship, valued at $100,000, Canada’s most prestigious undergraduate STEM scholarship. Selected by the University of Toronto, Drake will study Computer Science at the Faculty of Arts & Science at the St. George campus. Each year, from a pool of over 350,000 graduating high school students, more than 1,300 are nominated, but only 100 outstanding recipients are selected to receive the award.
For Drake, the scholarship stood out because it aligned with who he is: a student passionate about STEM, leadership, innovation, and creating real-world impact.
“I’ve always made an effort not to let academics define me. People often say, ‘You’re so smart,’ but I dislike that; I’d rather let my hard work define me.”
Drake credits the support of his teachers, mentors, and the Meadowridge community for helping him through the process, particularly Ms. Wenqing Chen and Ms. Jennifer Higginson. Drake was also a recipient of the Meadowridge Head of School Bursary, which allowed him to attend Meadowridge from grade 9 to 12, with full tuition covered for four years.
As he prepares for university, this scholarship not only recognizes his achievements but also provides the freedom to pursue his goals with greater confidence and fewer financial barriers. Congratulations, Drake. We can’t wait to see where your hard work, curiosity, and leadership take you next.
