Senior Boys Basketball captures the Fraser North Championships!

It was an exciting three days for our Senior Boys basketball team who defeated two provincially ranked teams to pick up the Fraser North Championship title and a spot in next week’s BCSS Provincial Championships!

The team opened the Fraser North tournament with a win against Urban Academy then took on John Knox Christian in the semi-finals. It was a battle all game that went to overtime, which led to an exciting finish with the team winning by one point to advance to the finals! On Saturday night in the West Gym of SFU, the MDR Gryphons took on the MRCS Hornets as the projected underdogs. The team got off to a slow start, with some struggles finding the basket but after half time, the team re-grouped and stormed back to take the lead in the fourth quarter. It was back and forth from there, with Andy X. sinking a massive thee-pointer from the corner to put the team up by 1 point with 10 seconds to play! After forcing a turnover and with some stellar defense, the team held on for the win! Congratulations to Ryan H. and Andy X. who were named Tournament All-Stars and to Philip A. who was named Tournament MVP. It was a thrilling few days and we want to thank all the family and friends who came out to cheer the team on!

Your Gryphons now look ahead to the Provincial Championships which are being played March 5 to 8 at the Langley Events Center. Tune into the live seeding show on March 2 and be sure to come out for a game to show your support and watch some amazing basketball! Information about the tournament including links to the seeding show and the livestream, as well as the tournament draw (to be posted March 2) can be found on the BC School Sports High School Sports Championship website.

GOOD LUCK GRYPHONS!
