Things Keep on Rolling with Gryphons Athletics: We’re Proud of the Continued Growth & Accomplishments of Our Teams!

Highlight of the week:

A big congratulations to our Grade 6 soccer team who picked up the GOLD medal at the Grizzly Cup in North Vancouver on Tuesday! The team went undefeated in round robin play, posting four wins and one draw, and making it to the finals. In the Gold medal game, it was tight with no scoring for the first half of the game however the Gryphons broke it open and secured the win with a beautiful diving header off Lorenzo in the closing minutes to take the match 2-0 over Aberdeen Hall from Kelowna. Our Grade 7 team (made up of over half Grade 6’s) also battled hard in the tournament, taking fourth place. The full team played another great game yesterday, defeating the #1 ranked Southridge Storm with a solid 2-1 win. It was a great sign as they close their league play next week and look to the ISEA Championships.

Thank you to Coach Spurgeon and Coach Kyle for their leadership of the team this year, and to Ms. Shannon Porter for stepping in yesterday to coach our Grade 7 side.

Shout-out as well to our Senior Girls Volleyball team who put up two huge wins in league play on Tuesday night, taking down both Garibaldi and Thomas Haney in straight sets! It was also an exciting week for our PYP and MYP cross-country teams who competed in both the ISEA and SD#42 cross-country meets – thank you to our amazing staff coaches and all the parents who weathered the storm (literally!) and came out to help drive and support our athletes!

Lots of exciting events coming up this week as our Grade 5 volleyball and soccer teams will compete in their year-end play days, our Junior soccer team looks to their first-round play-in game for the Fraser North Championships, our Grade 8 and Junior volleyball teams play their final league games and our Senior soccer team continues their training in preparation for the Provincial Championships in a couple weeks’ time. Go Gryphons!
