Grade 2 Takes Action

Students Raise $2,050 for Friends In Need Food Bank

Our latest Unit of Inquiry all about money inspired our Grade 2 classes to take action! After learning about the differences between needs and wants, as well as wealth and poverty, students decided to try and improve the lives of others. After learning that some people in their own community, right here in Maple Ridge, cannot meet their basic needs, the students planned a movie night fundraiser to support the Maple Ridge Friends in Need Food Bank.

After learning about the differences between needs and wants, as well as wealth and poverty, students decided to try and improve the lives of others.

After weeks of planning and organization, the movie night fundraiser took place: families and friends all came to enjoy an evening of popcorn, goodies, and fun while watching How to Train Your Dragon. There was a sense of pride and accomplishment as all in attendance knew they were making a different just by being there. The children were so excited to see their idea and hard work come to life... and they collected $2,050 in donations! We are very proud of the students for their caring and hard work. A special thanks to all of the parents who volunteered and supported our students!
