Scholastic Book Fair Raise Over $800
for BC Children's Hospital
The Scholastic Book Fair has been a community favourite for the past five years. Overnight, the library is transformed and shelves of books are brought in to be purchased and brought home. This year, our teacher librarians and PYP staff chose to donate the funds raised through the fair; and, after a quick poll of our community, they decided on BC Children's Hospital. Teachers were also excited to support a local initiative—Starfish Packs—and wanted to tie it in somehow. Ms. Angela Pallister reached out to their team, and they were keen to add books to their packs, which are delivered each week to students in need throughout the lower mainland. And so, a special bin for Starfish Packs was set up for our community to add books to.
When the fair began, families were invited to browse the selection before or after school, and students were also given time during class to check it out. At their busiest time, Ms. Pallister had over 40 shoppers! With such popularity, the fair was only possible thanks to a dedicated crew of seven parents six teacher volunteers. The scholastic book fair is a wonderful community achievement, and all for the love of reading!
