During At-Home-Learning our Kindergarten students logged-on and were led through a virtual tour of the J. Paul Getty Museum. Together, the classes wandered and observed the many paintings, illustrations, and sculptures throughout the halls. They discussed the art, made comments, and asked questions.
“We’ll guide discussions about open mindedness,” explains the Kindergarten teaching team, “so, one student might see a painting and think it’s a jungle, another a forest, and we talk about that.”
Together, students learned the many ways we express ourselves, and that there is no one, ‘right’ way to view art. How we express ourselves in our own art, and how we interpret the art of others, is different for everyone. “We’ll guide discussions about open mindedness,” explains the Kindergarten teaching team, “so, one student might see a painting and think it’s a jungle, another a forest, and we talk about that.”
After the tour, students took on the role of artist, creating their own Chris Uphues-inspired art, and then museum tour guide, giving a small presentation on an art piece at home. Check out our amazing tour guides’ videos below and get inspired!
